English businessman who was chief executive of The Restaurant Group, which owned Wagamama. In 2006, he was made chief executive of HBOS. He led the bank to the brink of collapse in 2008. He was also co-chief operating officer at GVC Holdings, Group chief executive of Alliance Boots, and chief executive of the betting chain Coral.

He attended St Peter's College, University of Oxford and Harvard Business School.
Trivia
In 2013, The Banking Standards Commission asked financial regulators to consider whether he and two other former HBOS bankers should be barred from future roles in the financial sector.

In April 1991, he married his wife Cathy. In November 2003, they had a son and in June 2000, they had a daughter.
