He is from Kharagpur, West Bengal. He was inspired to become a chef by his mother's cooking.

He is the first chef in India that has acted in a Bollywood movie. He is famous for his phrase "Namak Shamak" and for singing while he seasons his food. He is fluent in six languages: English, Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Odia and Telugu. His YouTube channel features more than 1,000 videos. A number of his videos have racked up millions of views. 

Family Life

He married Aparna in 1996 and they have two daughters, Anushka and Antra. He has two older sisters and a brother.
