Chilean politician who is a member of the Independent Democratic Union Party. He formerly served as the mayor of Los Condes, a district within the capital city of Santiago. He also became the mayor of Santiago itself. He ran for president in 1999 and 2005, losing both times. He launched a third bid for president in 2021 but lost during the primary elections. He uses his joaquin.lavin TikTok account to promote his policies, to connect with his constituents and to share jokes. He has acquired 120,000 followers.

He is the son of Joaquín Lavín Pradenas and Carmen Infante Vial. His father was a landowner. He married María Estela León Ruíz, with whom he shares seven children.
