Former fast-medium bowler for England, took 1,033 wickets for Leicestershire, Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1967.
He was enlisted in the military and made his debut for Staffordshire in 1957.
He took one hundred wickets in two consecutive seasons (1959-60).
He has two sons named Pat and Terry.
He and Geoff Pullar were both named Wisden's Cricketers of the Year during the 1960's.
