He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1947 to 1954. He began developing his career upon graduation and quickly became popular.
Trivia
He had a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1972 to 1997. He was awarded the Guggenheim Prize in 1958 and the Carnegie Prize- Pittsburgh in 1961.
Family Life
He was born in Klagenfurt, Austria. His father died before he was born and his mother died when he was an infant. He was raised by his aunt in Frohnleiten, Styria, Austria.
